This is an exciting opportunity for an occupational therapist to work at Skills for Kids, a well-established, dynamic and enthusiastic private practice situated in Penrith. This is a perfect position for a highly motivated clinician who demonstrates excellent time management skills, superior oral and written communication skills, and a passionate commitment to working with children.
The private practice
We provide a wide range of innovative, evidence-informed services to children who have difficulties with academic and/or social participation including children with learning difficulties, autism spectrum disorder, intellectual impairment, brain injury and attention deficit disorder. Children’s ages range from 2 – 18 years.
Our focus at Skills for Kids is to work closely with parents and teachers, linking current research theory to clinical practice, in order to guide the successful participation of children in their everyday routines and activities.
Joining a team of 20+ you will be employed, along with other occupational therapists and speech language pathologists, to work in strong partnership with parents and preschool, primary school and high school teachers providing assessment and intervention services.
We provide regular weekly/fortnightly intervention sessions in natural contexts (including many local schools and preschools) as well as at the clinics. Our school holiday group programmes are a vital and exciting part of our service delivery.

Our 2 year graduate programme provides an exceptional opportunity for clinicians (either new graduates or clinicians transferring to paediatrics) to gain wide-ranging experience with clients while also learning how to apply current research to clinical practice.
Skills for Kids is a highly respected practice, committed to professional excellence. Our reputation has been achieved through a deliberate focus on quality in the application of research. This is based on a strong foundation of occupation, and a strategic approach using the Perceive Recall Plan and Perform (PRPP) System of Task Analysis and Intervention.
The programme provides grounding in our clinical model for assessment and intervention. It includes

Strong interest in the area of Learning Difficulty and Autism Spectrum Disorder
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in partnership with children, families, teachers and other allied health professionals
Commitment to evidence-informed practice and ongoing professional education
Superior verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work efficiently using a range of strategies to manage priorities and workload
The following criteria are essential at time of employment
Recognised degree in occupational therapy
Registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia
Registration with AHPRA
Approved Working with Children Check (WWCC)
Own car and valid driver’s licence
